BRIEF/SOLUTION Brief

Overgrown garden in the Trinity area of Edinburgh.
The client wanted a space to sit and entertain directly outside her new extension.
She enjoys the idea of growing plants.
The space round the house was dull and waterlogged.

Solution

There was a lot of sandstone left over from work on the new extension. I decided to create a raised, curved border.
The bedroom overlooked the enclosed part of the garden. We built some steps leading out to the garden.
Quartz gravel and sandstone stepping stones cover the remainder of the enclosed space.
We used grey sandstone paving for the two terraces.
The ramshackle fence was replaced with a stylish but simple fence. We surrounded the shed with trellis to distract attention from it.
