Brief- Medium-sized suburban garden in Trinity.
- Rectangular grassed space with nothing of interest to catch the eye.
- The client had just moved into the house and is a keen ‘plants person’.
- She wanted her garden to accommodate a pond, greenhouse and a small sitting area, and plenty of room for planting.
- She was not keen on straight lines and wanted something flowing and organic.
- I decided to split the garden into two ‘rooms’ using 3 arches.
- The arches also provide a strong vertical element in the centre of the garden.
- A dynamic curved gravel path, leading to the smaller sitting area, provides a link between the house and the small sitting area.
- We removed a few paving slabs from the larger sitting area to create additional planting spaces. This helped soften the overall effect and create an interesting sitting space.
- We used recycled Edinburgh street cobbles to edge the gravel path and terrace, which tied the hard landscaping areas together.
